Eleven year old Lilly Segovia isn't looking forward to moving to her new home. She tries to convince her parents to stay but it's time to go. As a last little memento, the girl keeps a beautiful oyster shell. Strange, the shell almost seemed like a gift from the seagull that dropped it. Once to her new home, Lilly is still homesick but she starts to settle in. She makes friends with a local couple whose son recently went missing. No one seems to know what happened to the boy, one day he went out in his boat and just never came back. Then, really odd things begin to happen. One day, when Lilly goes to stir an ordinary pot of soup, the lip popped off and a bright blue swan flew out of the pot. The swan told her that magic was swirling all around, that she'd receive another visit, and that soon she would travel to a magical land. Here the real adventure begins. What an adventure that is! The colorful illustrations are absolutely gorgeous.

An inspiring, thrilling story...and as much for parents as for their children. Her illustrations are magnificent and literally turn the book into a movie. As well, the addition of a Cast of Characters and a combination Gazetteer & Glossary, both with self-pronunciation guides, are immensely valuable to young readers. I cannot recommend it too highly!
