The legendary mad stone, also known as a deer pearl or bezoar stone was for ages used to draw out poison from the bites of animals. Because of their almost mystical powers, mad stones were passed from one generation to the next, never bought or sold as such disregard was thought to negate their healing powers.

Legend has it that the magic of the mad stone worked by absorbing the poison bit by bit, curing the bites and detoxifying them completely, leading some desperate folks to believe that the rare object had even the power to cure rabies.
