Book Overview

Self-satisfaction and complacency: these could very well be a Christian's greatest enemies. And these are the enemies that the apostle Paul addresses in his letter to the Ephesians.

Pastor John MacArthur will take you through Ephesians, passage by passage, so that you can better understand the Christian encouragement and warnings in this book.

When Paul wrote his letter to the believers in the city of Ephesus, he wrote to remind them of their immeasurable blessings in Jesus Christ and to admonish them to live in a manner worthy of them. Paul reminds them of the spiritual armor supplied through God's Word and by His Spirit, and of their need for vigilant and persistent prayer.

Simple yet profound

This book does not try to comment on every scripture, but gives insightful views concerning the verse or verses discussed. The author uses everyday language to help one to understand the book of Ephesians. What is even more helpful is the way the author uses historical data and his understanding of the culture during bible times to explain his view on the text. For those who are serious students of the bible, you can't go wrong adding this book to your library.

Excellent Bible study tool

John MacArthur has a wonderful gift of commentating on the Scriptures. This is the only one of his Bible study commentary series that I have used so far, but I look forward to using more of this series in the future. This one on Ephesians is tremendous. Highly recommend to any serious student of the Bible.

Deep Riches from Our Divine Bank Account

Ephesians has been rightly called the Christian's "divine bank account" for the riches that God has given us in Christ. The entire book is directed by Paul the Apostle toward the goal of helping disciples know the riches that are ours in salvation. Dr. MacArthur writes with that one purpose in mind. While the book is indeed a commentary on Ephesians, Dr. MacArthur has written for the goal of helping every believer know their status in the kingdom of God. You will find that you will want to lay down this commentary and shout praise to our King for His great salvation in Jesus Christ. This book is much more than a doctrinal or technical commentary (it has elements of both) but it also is a book of worship as you see the joys we have in Jesus (Ephesians 1:7; 2:1-10)

The Believer's Position in Christ

This is the second MacArthur Commentary I have purchased (the first was Romans), and I must say that I am enjoying this one every bit as much as I did the first one I read. Dr. Mac has a true gift for expository teaching. He can plumb the depths of scripture "comparing spiritual things with spiritual" without being pedantic. I am using this book in my own personal devotional time, and I am using some of his thoughts on election and predestination in a teaching series at our church. Dr. MacArthur does a masterful job at making clear the believer's position in Christ. His approach is easily accessible to clergy and layman alike. He brings out strong doctrine, without dogmatism, or denominational slant. Eventually, I hope to own most if not all of Dr. MacArthur's commentaries as I feel that they are immensely edifying.

Insightful commentary for Christians maturing in the spirit.

This makes the fifth book from MacAurthur's New Testament Commentary books I have purchased. I use mine in my personal devotional time and in preparation for Sunday School lessons. The knowledge provided from an historical perspective add to the books appeal. The books are presented in a way so the average Christian can relate to today's wordly environment. The author gets to the "meat" of the subject and offers more than the usual Sunday School pre-packaged materials. I highly recommend any of the associated books contained within his series on the New Testament.
