Asking for a friend...if I capture a thief, do I get to keep him?
Lainey
I run a revenge service for women with terrible exes.
Business is booming.
So when I catch a devastatingly handsome stranger trying to steal my boss's priceless necklace, I do what any revenge-minded woman would-
I launch myself at him.
Unfortunately, my vigilantism fails spectacularly. The necklace is already gone, and Jake swears he doesn't have it. He also claims he's retired and only agreed to one last job because his brother's life is on the line.
I've come across plenty of charming liars in my line of work, so I don't just take his word for it.
Which is how I end up hunting for a missing necklace with a former criminal who helps me run my revenge business, wins over my cat, and looks at me like I'm something worth protecting...
I don't trust criminals.
Unfortunately, I might want to keep this one.
Jake
I was supposed to grab the necklace and leave.
Instead, I got tackled by a five-foot-nothing revenge entrepreneur with zero self-preservation instincts.
I've done things I'm not proud of, but I really was trying to stay out of trouble when I was shoved into this job.
I'm ready for a fresh start, and Lainey makes me want to be better than my past.
Now I just have to clear my name, save my brother, and convince the woman who literally captured me that I'm worth the risk.
Easy, right?
