The Lost Road to Hope

Eight strangers, each battling their own tragic pasts and fatal diagnoses, miraculously survive their illnesses-only to awaken in a world that has undergone a terrifying and inexplicable transformation.

Among them is Alex Trevor, a battle-hardened homicide detective desperate to return to his wife and daughter; Kayla Young, a bitter teenager who has given up on hope; Dr. Rick Foster, an oncologist haunted by personal loss; Tara Rayne, an affluent mother tormented by her son's fatal prognosis; Jackson Mallory, a cynical attorney plagued by his father's unrelenting judgment; and Pastor Matt Sawyer, a man whose faith is about to face its greatest test.

As they struggle to understand why they've been spared, they soon realize their survival comes with a harrowing price. Together, they must fight for hope, redemption, and the fate of humanity itself-before time runs out.

A real page turner!

What are my thoughts on this book? This supernatural thriller is most likely something I wouldn't have picked up had the author, Ronald J. Rossman, not reached out to ask if I'd read and review his book. I was hesitant to take it on. Generally speaking, I'm a murder-mystery and true-crime reader. Occasionally, I'll branch out to historical fiction, preferably something with a little mystery in the pages. But, I digress. The first day, I knocked out 92 of the 448 pages. I didn't want to stop reading. There is a lot of reflection, ranging from self-pity and loathing to a desire to live among the protagonists, as well as faith in God to help them persevere. The pages are filled with emotional turmoil, action, and creatures that are prehistoric-like and absolutely alien to anything they have ever seen before. Other titles that came to mind as I read this title included The Green Mile by Stephen King, Journey to the Center of the Earth by Jules Verne, Kiss the Girls by James Patterson, The Hobbit by J. R. R. Tolkien, the Netflix TV series Stranger Things by Matt Duffer and Ross Duffer, and the 1990 American monster horror film, Tremors, directed by Ron Underwood.
