The Lost Commandment: Have We Missed What Jesus Really Wants?

When Jesus was asked to name the greatest commandment, He answered with what is now called the Golden Rule: "Love your neighbor as yourself" (Luke 6:31 NIV). In this eye-opening new book, author Dave Greber asserts that if Jesus were asked this question again, He would answer with the words He spoke at the Last Supper: "A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another" (John 13:34 NIV). Often overlooked or misunderstood, this "lost commandment" tells us how Jesus wants us to live.

Using stories, Scripture, and practical applications, Greber unpacks the meaning of the lost commandment by looking at seven characteristics of biblical living that Jesus Himself embodied and that Christians should follow to find the joy that comes with following God's desire for us.

"Greber presents a strong case for Christ's intent of the 'new' commandment replacing the 'Golden Rule.'"--Christian Retailing, July 2009

"There is much excellent teaching about Christian discipleship here, the kind that's life-changing and that organically extends into other areas of obedience and service, such as evangelism."--CBA Retailers & Resources, July 2009

A Must Read

A must read whether you're experienced in Christian reading or just starting. If you are an experienced Christian reader and you're looking for something refreshingly new, different, scholarly, challenging, informative, and delivered on a very human and practical level, you'll find it in Dave Greber's "The Lost Commandment". If you are new to Christian reading, you'll find that Dave Greber offers you something other's haven't, a look at the heart, the core, of not just where we could be but where we need to be in our lives as Christians. Each chapter comes with a summary and "applications" section that make this ideal for small groups looking for not only a compelling message founded in biblical teaching, but also the practical help to ensure your discussions are guided and lively. And if enough folks read and understand the principles put forward in "The Lost Commandment" and then apply them in their lives, we could experience a truly wonderful world here and now, today.

Great insight - powerful book

Dave Greber hits the perverbial nail on the head. This book is well written, backed up with scripture and inspires the reader to look inward. A great home group/bible study guide as well.

A treasure, hidden in plain sight...

The premise of Dave Greber's first book is as simple as it is dramatic: that when Jesus said he was giving the disciples a "new command," he meant what he said & said what he meant, and that this "new commandment" has life-altering consequences for you and me. In a style of prose that is easy to read (to my reading, similar to that of a Bruce Wilkinson), Mr. Greber compares this new commandment to the "greatest commandment of the Law," and explains how Jesus calls us to a higher kind of love - and what that means for us. He lays out, in simple yet thoughtful (and thought-provoking) language, what ir really means to love as Jesus loved. Highly recommended for either individual or small group study.

A Definitive Work on Loving and Serving Others

Dave Greber has written the definitive work on how we as Christians can and should love and serve others. In rediscovering Christ's commandment to 'love one another as I have loved you' the author tells us why this commandment supercedes the Golden Rule. Dave gives good practical advice and personal stories which help the user flesh out what this higher standard of love, service and forgiveness looks like in everyday life. This is an excellent primer on how to live the Christian life and experience joy, the way our saviour taught us to during His earthly ministry.
