I think this is definitely a worth while read. The history is a good perspective on exploration of the time and insight into the exploitation of indigenous people, and the moral compass of Percy Fawcett.

A good read for history buffs

I enjoyed it, its not an adventure book so much as a narration of the world around a man as he goes through a jungle, at least thats what it kind of feels like. If you like learning about interesting history than this is a good book to pick up.
A tough slog....

....reading the book.
The subject matter is fascinating, although I found it a bit of a struggle to complete the book.
The book's many diversions into backstory, side story, 'what is happening back home', and present (there are two 'presents', in a sense) eliminated most of the tension from the Fawcett's jungle adventures.
Fantastic Book

I included Fawcett in my book, Vanished, published in 2007. For all the people profiled in my book, I used many primary sources and then at least one good authoritative secondary source. For Fawcett, I found none that can rival Grann's book. This is the best book written on the missing explorer. Fawcett is a fantastically intersting figure and deserves to be better known in North America than he is. Grann's book brings him to life like no other I've read - I highly recommend it.
