The Lost and Found Office

By Lamont Spence

Eleven-year-old Desmond Pike knows where everything is. So when he finds a claim ticket with his own name in Halbrook Middle School's lost-and-found, he knows something is wrong.

Behind the ordinary gray bin is the Halbrook Branch of the Central Office of Missing Things, a hidden world of impossible shelves, brass elevators, and objects nobody else can see. The Office handles more than hats and single sneakers. It handles lost tempers, lost time, lost direction-and Junie Alvarez's lost nerve.

Desmond is appointed Junior Clerk, Provisional, with one rule: return a claim only to its rightful owner. He cannot keep it, borrow it, or use it himself.

With the fall assembly approaching, Desmond and his sharp-eyed friend Mina must find Junie's nerve before the school begins losing more than anyone can explain. But solving Junie's case means facing the auditorium, an old friendship, and the thing Desmond has refused to name since June.

Funny, mysterious, and heartfelt, The Lost Nerve is a story about friendship, accountability, and what it means to be ready.
