An up to date must have guide for parents looking for the right school for their child. It has insider information and excellent reviews on the top 70 Private schools in the greater Los Angeles area.... This description may be from another edition of this product.
I bought this book because I was interested in learning more about private schools additionally I wanted to learn about magnet/charter schools, what they offer, if colleges like them. are they great or just so-so, etc.. The books cover says: "Magnet and Charter School Programs". Which turned out to basically be a mere couple of paragraphs on the ideals of both.. but no school listings. Well there is a list of maybe 9 charters with no addresses that the author says that she would recommend taking a closer look at and gives a website for charters. Magnets get only a page of info with no schools listed at all. That being said, the rest of the book is AMAZING. There is so much information including what to ask during school tours, an explanation of the different types of teaching philosophies (Traditional, Progressive, developmental, montessori, waldorf, carden method, how schools evaluate your child, sample interview questions.. then there are pages of a lot of different private schools and the author's opinion of them. She is very open minded, obviously a real believer in private education and has personally visited each school. She also quotes from the brochures themselves so that you can get the philosophy and feeling from the school. If you are considering private schools you will not be disappointed. If you are interested in finding magnet and charter school info then convince your friend who wants the private school info to buy it and you can copy down the website info for magnet/charter schools. Oh and also expect to want to go to private school after reading about the other schools. you'll want to get a second job to pay for it because they sound wonderful and amazing!!

This "bird's eye" view of LA Private Schools is written in a warm, conversational tone and gives the reader a real mom's perspective on the multitude of private schools in the great L.A. area. It is a resource I have returned to again and again in considering school options for my children. It is straightforward, honest, and not about the standard "marketing" line you get from admissions directors.
