The Long Way Round

By S.J. Gibbs

The Long Way Round is a novel about what happens when three people-bound more by circumstance than choice-step outside the lives they've built for themselves.
Deloris, tentative and self-contained, would rather stay in her London flat than face a pair of hiking boots. Brian, in his remote northern cottage, carries his solitude like a badge. Anna, brisk and insistent, thinks a walking trip will do them all good.
What begins as a simple ramble across the moors turns into a test of endurance: sudden storms, frayed tempers, wrong turns into the mist. A twisted ankle here, a wrenched knee there-each stumble dragging old grievances to the surface. Yet in the bleak stretches, when the path seems endless, small moments-shared stories, unexpected laughter, a dawn view that silences complaint-forge a fragile connection.
By the journey's end, nothing is neatly resolved, but something has shifted. Back in their separate lives, Deloris opens a postcard from Brian: a rough sketch of hills. and three words that reach further than any map-Still walking.
A novel about distance and closeness, solitude and companionship, The Long Way Round asks what it means to take the long road back to each other.
