Brian Wayne Wells, Esquire, reviews "The Long March"

Dick Wilson's short book (283 pages) is an exciting epic of one of the most important events of modern Chinese history. The 1935 Long March was a 6,000 mile strategic retreat for the Chinese Communist Party. The retreat took Mao Tse-tung and his army of 100,000 men and women across the face of China from the south central China base in Kiangsi Province to the northern province of Yenan close to the Great Wall of China. In Yenan the foundations of the 1949 Revolution were laid. It was during the hardships endured on the Long March that Mao Tse-tung consolidated his position as leader of the Chines Communist Party. This strong influence with the party would last until his death in 1976. Dick Wilson is a journalist who specializes in East Asian Affairs. His writing style creates excitment with the reader. The reader does not want to put the book down.
