Book Overview

A twisty psychological thriller from the New York Times and USA Today bestselling author of The Housemaid and The Coworker

Some doors are locked for a reason...

While eleven-year-old Nora Davis was up in her bedroom doing homework, she had no idea her father was killing women in the basement.

Until the day the police arrived at their front door.

Decades later, Nora's father is spending his life behind bars, and Nora is a successful surgeon with a quiet, solitary existence. Nobody knows about her past, and she'll do anything to keep it that way.

Then one of her young female patients is murdered, killed in the same unique and horrific manner that her father used to kill his victims.

Somebody knows who Nora is. Somebody wants her to take the fall for this unthinkable crime. But she's not like her father. The police can't pin anything on her. As long as they don't look in her basement...

From New York Times bestselling author Freida McFadden comes a riveting psychological thriller about guilt, secrets, and whether it's possible to outrun what's in our blood.

McFadden at her best.

This one is not my favorite McFadden. It was really good. But there definitely some questionable areas. Such as “If I had anything for dinner, I almost certainly would be watching it come up in reverse right now”. Why not just say “would be throwing up”? 🤮 I know gross. It’s the terminology seems really weird for me. Soup? A dr ate soup that was given to her many hours ago and that soup sat in her purse all that time, not refrigerated? And the dr ate it? Seriously? Forget the drugs that were added to it, but it definitely wouldn’t have been healthy for anyone. Nora is a child who grew up with a serial killer for a father. That could definitely be a life changing part of a child’s world. She decides that she won’t be like him. She won’t ruin humanity. But then dead ladies keep popping up around here. Past patients, missing, found murdered, with the same MO that her serial killer father used. Who could be doing this?

Good read

It was a captivating book, well written for the most part. The climax, while slightly surprising, was the worst written part of the book IMO.

Mystery Thriller

This was my 4th audio book of the year. This was the perfect 5 star audio book for my 1st Freida McFadden book. It was the perfect mystery/ thriller all the way. The Epilogue was my favorite. A great reminder that your past does not deify you.
