There are many great subjects the Bible speaks to. There is: faith, joy, peace, heaven, God, Jesus Christ, the Holy Spirit, hope, eternity, man, salvation, redemption, repentance, forgiveness, patience, kindness, gentleness, etc. These, and many others, are great subjects. Some of these subjects are even called "great." That is the case with love. Faith, hope, and love are compared. The Bible says that love is the greatest of these three. Love is great. An entire chapter in the Bible is devoted to love. It is even a part of the definition of God, for God is love. Love is the first great commandment. Love is the second great commandment. But as for a purpose for this book, I will aspire to the new commandment that Jesus gave. He said, "A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another" (John13:34). I would have thought the first great commandment would be enough. Then I thought the second great commandment would surely be enough. But then Jesus gives us this new one. Then it dawned on me. Some have said that heaven will be boring. But can we ever truly love like Jesus loved? I think there is enough room in this verse to span all eternity - in learning to love like Jesus loved. If we can learn to love a fraction of how Jesus loved in this life, we have learned something. If this book can help that, then it is worth it.
