We cannot know exactly what actions Jesus performed and what words he uttered. However, in the written records that have handed down information about his life and teaching, gestures and words have been recorded that are endowed with such profound wisdom that they are sufficient in themselves to attest to the luminous greatness of the person who had produced them.
On the basis of the intrinsic truth of the words and deeds attributable to Jesus, it is possible to set forth the essential elements of his teaching.
