It's been nearly 40 years since Pat Burgess wrote "The Living Cowries" and much has been learned about the Cypraeidae in the intervening four decades, notably through the genetic sequencing project undertaken by Dr. Chris Myers at the Florida Museum of Natural History. Still, there is much of value for today's cowrie-lovers in this book. The photographs are large and clear and the range maps, showing the distribution of each species, are extremely valuable, if not necessarily current for every species. Science does, after all, continue to advance. For old timers like me, re-reading this book is like revisiting a long-lost friend.
