The Little Stone Lions on Yemin [Chinese]

This picture book for young children explores themes of mission and responsibility, courage and accountability. It tells the story of an ancient stone bridge named "Night-Bright Bridge," which originally had four guardian stone lions. Over centuries, only two lions remained. So the villagers commissioned a stonemason to carve two new lions and placed them on the bridge. The new lions were mischievous and disobedient. They refused to follow the rules set by the older lions, leaving the bridge every night to roam and play. This caused constant friction between them and the traditionalist elders. Through the long years, filled with both laughter and tears, the new lions gradually matured. They came to understand the meaning of responsibility and faith, grasped the old lions' well-intentioned guidance, and bravely embraced their own mission and dreams.
