A Little Golden Memory

For decades, this children's book has remained a little golden memory, tucked away in the recesses of my mind. I first heard the story of The Little Red Hen in kindergarten. At story time, my classmates and I would gather in a wide circle on the carpet while our teacher sat in the center. After reading each page, she would hold the book high in the air, moving it from right to left so everyone could admire the illustrations. The mother hen, wearing her apron, reminded me of my grandmother baking in her kitchen at home. She lovingly baked for her little chicklets, just as Granny lovingly baked for me. At the end of the story, our teacher patiently explained its moral. Years later, when I became an adult, that lesson became a driving force throughout my career. Today, I gifted this treasured book to a little girl. My heartfelt hope is that she will cherish its timeless story and that its simple lesson will find its way into her heart, just as it did mine.

Everyone should read this

This was my favorite book as a child and I still love the idea for the story--working hard to enjoy the fruits of your work, while those who do not contribute cannot expect to enjoy those same rewards. Last year I started a small project of giving this book to everyone I know who has small children. I even sent stacks to friends in other states who then gave them out to people they knew. I received some very kind thank you's and comments from people I did not know who appreciated the message of the book. I would recommend this book to both children and adults.

Love, Love, Love This book!

Growing up my mom read this to me and my brother. I had forgotten how much I loved this story until we unearthed this book for my sons. Now they love it too! They loved it so much that I am forced to order another copy because my copy is worn out!

Teaching your child about the value of work

I'm surprised anyone still reads this. It is about the value of working and teaches the lesson that those who don't work should not share in the efforts of those who do work. If the major media and the federal government find out that people are still reading this you can expect it to be attacked or banned.

The Little Red Hen

What a wondeful story about the values of sharing, working and team work! This story was one from my childhood. The lessons one can learn from it apply even more today than they did 50 years ago! This story and Little Butterball (which is no longer in print but should be)are timeless. Enjoy it with your child(ren) today!

Simple and Easy but Still Good!

I was looking through some old Little Golden books looking to see if we had any that my niece might like and I came across The Little Red Hen and I remember really liking this cute book when I was little and it being one of my favorite Little Golden Books it has nice pictures and is very simple and easy to read and perfect for a child just learning how to read.
