Carl and his family live happily in the garden city of "IederZijn Huis." His parents aren't wealthy, but life in the neighborhood is pleasant, and they have many friends.
He is the little boy from Evere Brussels. He is not yet five years old when his mother dies of a heart attack in the hospital. A tragic event that will turn everything upside down.
The arrival of a stepmother will lead to a deterioration of his situation. His brothers and sisters will leave the family home. In order to distance him and to ensure he focuses on his schooling, he will be sent to boarding school. As he begins his fifth year of primary school, young Carl is placed in a children's home under the supervision of the judge. He then leaves his home and his friends to live in the Japanese Tower neighborhood of Laeken.
This book is largely inspired by his childhood and adolescence, told from the perspective of the little boy and the people around him. The dramas, the joys, the sorrows, the small pleasures, the journeys, the school career from childhood until the age of 21.
