Book Overview

The highly anticipated follow-up to Brad Meltzer's #1 New York Times bestselling thriller. The Escape Artist featuring Nola and Zig, the most charismatic new crime-solving duo we've seen in decades.

Archie Mint has led a charmed life--he's got a beautiful wife, two impressive kids, and a successful military career. When he's killed while trying to stop a robbery in his own home, his family is shattered--and then shocked when the other shoe drops. Mint's charmed life, so perfect on the surface, held criminal secrets none of them could have imagined.

While working on Mint's body before his funeral, mortician "Zig" Zigarowski discovers something he was never meant to see. That telling detail leads him to Dover Air Force Base, where he uncovers Mint's involvement in a top-secret military unit and his connection to military artist and Sergeant First Class Nola Brown. Two years ago, Nola saved Zig's life--so he knows better than most that she's as volatile and dangerous as a bolt of lightning.

Everyone wants to talk to Nola, but she's not cooperating--and indeed doesn't want to be found. In order to track her down, Zig teams with Nola's long missing brother, who's just as combustible as she is. As they follow Nola's trail, they discover one of the U.S. government's most intensely guarded secrets--an undisclosed military facility that dates back to the Cold War and holds the key to something far more sinister: a hidden group willing to compromise the very safety and security of America itself.

Watch out for the lightning rod. She's dangerous.

confusing and no story line

characters are all a hodge podge of times and places. no clear plot. no story life and just a general sense of confusion. i tried, i read over 100 pages. what a waste of time, nothing was any clearer after 100 pages. i wish i had that time back,

Exciting Stand-alone

5 stars, Exciting Stand-alone THE LIGHTNING ROD (ESCAPE ARTIST, #2) by Brad Meltzer When the truth comes out, why a man was murdered, there can be all sorts of reasons why. Not much is as it seems. Mystery, thriller, crime, family woes, friendships, death of a child, there is something for everyone in this novel. Since I didn't read book #1, I was happy to find out that the Escape Artist Series Books are all stand-alone. It was easy to jump right into the story and know who was who, since some of the characters carried over from the first novel. Zig Zigarowski, a mortician, and Nola Brown an army artist team up, almost nonchalantly to solve the mysteries surrounding the death of Nola's friend Archie Mint. I liked Nola the best from the book, especially her artistic abilities. Many thanks to ##williammorrow for the print complimentary copy (which looks nothing like the paperback version, released) of #thelightningrod I was under no obligation to post a review. #mystery #thriller #murders #adventure #action #adult #escapeartistseries #favoritebooks
