Among the Jews, there was an extra-Biblical tradition connecting Moses to Kush, the present Sudan, where he had done some warring. Artapanus of Alexandria and Josephus mentioned it in their writings. A reasonable conclusion is that Moses, raised in the pharaoh's house, was a Viceroy of Nubia and that his Egyptian name was Ahmose.
