The Lies of an Ancient Serpent

There is a famous painting entitled "The Truth Coming Out of the Well" by Jean-L on G r me (1896). The story associated with this painting presents two characters standing by a well; one named "Lie" and the other named "Truth." Lie says to Truth, "Let's bathe together, for the water in the well is beautiful and cool." Truth, feeling the water, found it to be as Lie described. So, Truth and Lie removed their clothing and entered the water. Suddenly, and without any warning, Lie climbed out of the well and fled away, dressed in Truth's clothing. Truth pursued Lie in order to recover her clothes, but when the world looked upon the naked Truth, it turned away with anger and contempt. Truth had no choice but to return to the seclusion of the well to hide her shame. Since then, Lie has run freely dressed in Truth's clothing. How completely this story captures the essence of this book. The enemy of God-that ancient serpent called the "Devil" and "Satan"-uses lies and deceit to create disillusionment in the hearts and minds of God's children. This disillusionment can cause us to explore the teachings of strange and foreign religions and, under its most extreme influence, can cause us to abandon our faith in God altogether. The enemy of God uses clever-sounding arguments delivered by prideful, self-engrossed religious scholars and teachers to advance his deceitful claims and to turn our eyes away from the plain and simple truths of the Scriptures. In doing so, we are led to re-establish our concept of God and His Truth on the basis of human reasoning and intelligent scholarship, which only leads us into greater error. When this rebellion has run its full course, it causes the human soul to cease its reliance upon the light of God's trustworthy counsel, and to forget it's great need for a child-like faith concerning the deeper, incomprehensible mysteries of God.This book exposes the artful duplicity of the ancient Serpent, and how he has managed to make the pages of Holy Writ his battleground against the unwary Christian. This is by no means a scholarly work. For I do not claim to be a scholar or teacher. Rather, this book is only a reminder of the pure and simple teachings of Christ and the early Church, of which the majority of modern Christendom now rejects, or has somehow forgotten. It does not attempt to counter every opposing argument, but rather, points the reader to the plain text of the scriptures where the truth can be readily and prayerfully discerned. These rejected and forgotten truths will soon become the center of historic conflict within the modern Church. In fact, those who dare to proclaim and defend the truths discussed in this book will find themselves at fearful odds with the power and authority of the Church: so much so, that these truths just might revive the darkest ages of our past.This book begins with the clear and unequivocal message of the everlasting Gospel of Jesus Christ; a message that is the foundation and context of every doctrine of our Christian faith. If we lose sight of the ancient Gospel, we are certain to lose sight of God's present truths. And, if we lose sight of God's present truths, we make ourselves vulnerable to the lies and counterfeits of the Serpent. We must constantly pray for God's wisdom and protection as we search for God's truth in the pages of Holy Writ. We must recognize that we are wholly unable to comprehend the meaning of God's inspired text without the constant guidance and protection of His Holy Spirit.May the light of God's counsel be with you as you read this simple and honest book.
