Excellent Help For Overcoming Childhood Abuse

I just finished reading "The Lie That Binds", and I was spellbound the entire time. I could not put it down. I know our organization will make great use of this resource in helping people heal who have been abused emotionally, physically and sexually by their parents and others. This will also help us to help those from Native North American populations with a positive message of overcoming. It is a very freeing and life giving representation, acknowledging the parts that Native Spiritualism and Pentacostalism played, while coming to a wonderful balance as these two survivors found peace. It is edifying in the end to everyone, which is a hard thing to accomplish when the wounds are so deep. I will recommend this book avidly to counsellors, social workers, and the clergy. It is a valuable resource for all, and I have never seen anything quite like it.

The Lie that Binds

The book is a very helpful resource for anyone dealing with historic issues of family violence/incest/oppression. Examination of the experiences of two siblings in a large family system is especially helpful to individuals who are disconnected from their family system and history. It helps to show how the siblings remained connected to each other in special ways as they reflect on the impact of their experiences on each other. Although the material is challenging there is a pervasive undercurrent of hope and faith that comes through. It is important as well to reflect on those siblings that did not make it through to the healing. The insights are important in understanding self-destructive behaviors, addictions, and depression. The resource was very easy to read and to relate to. As someone who works with a variety of people trying to generate positive changes and healing the material was very relevant to their experiences and could be part of a bibliotherapy project. It takes a great deal of courage to move through the negative forces to find positive ways to help self and others. The story is inspiring.
