Funny!

Sad, but funny. Now I'll be looking at the other patrons of the library more carefully next time I'm there.

fun book

I found this to be a really fun book. I think that some of the other reviewers are upset because they live in the town and could not identify themselves in the book.

Worth the Wait.

I had been excited to get my hands on this book ever since I heard about it because this book is based on the library I worked at as a page during high school. I read it all in the two hours after receiving it as a birthday present. Every page I turned held a patron I recognized. Almost every page held stories I experienced or heard about when I worked there. I am so glad that this book was finally written. I am deeply angered that this book led to the author's firing. I may not agree with everything she says, but she paints an accurate picture of what goes on every day at your local library. Can't believe I want to pursue library science as a career ;) All in all, I enjoyed this book because for me it was a trip down memory lane. I only wished it was longer--it is a very thin book and I probably wouldn't have bought it for myself (like I said above, it was a present) because I read very quickly and don't like spending money on books that I finish in the same amount of time it takes me to watch a movie. Although I am going to be lending it out to others who don't believe me when I tell them about all the odd people I encountered there!

FIRED BY THE PILLAR OF FREE SPEECH!

My review has been attacked because either I did not "review the technical merit of the book," or I exposed the truth about the American Library Association. The condescension in the comments is indicative of their authors' support for the ALA policies above the safety of MINOR CHILDREN. Ann Miketa has been fired by the very people who want us to believe they respect freedom of speech! (And, yes, Miketa talks A LOT about "the porn problem and the perverts"!) Those defending her firing, I expect, chose to ignore the Wilsons, who published books exposing the CIA and the US Presidency--their bosses! Behind public (taxpayer paid!) libraries is the gargantuan American Library Association. While it supports Cuba's right to ban books, it accuses Americans of banning books. These Americans are the parents who don't want their children reading the filth being jammed into children areas of libraries! So while bravely defending minor children's "intellectual freedom" (?) these self-anointed intellectuals fire employees who dare to expose the perverts who freely operate in the library! (What happened with the Left and Time magazine idolized "whistle-blowers"?!) Miketa's book is proof US libraries are being invaded by psychos who use computers to see kiddy-porn and even molest children. (Just do an on-line search for "sexual crimes public libraries"!) Meanwhile, Judith Krug (ALA) and her lackeys (i.e., useful idiots) hide/deny facts and fight against libraries putting porn filters in computers. This, ladies and gentlemen, is what is really happening in your public library. Ann Miketa's case is a symptom of their overbearing power and dare. And, no, I don't like her style and don't agree with some of her positions; but her book has lots of merit, in which she exposes the reality of libraries: patrons who MASTURBATE in plain day light, while watching girls doing their homework in the library "safe" environment. To the people ridiculing and belittling my review: would you spouse the same opinion if the same was happening in, say, Walmarts all over the US? I don't know if the NAACP or the NAG's are "obscene," but they sure are as Left as they come--and as such are staunch supporters of the ALA! (Not one comment below refutes the FACTS I just exposed about the ALA and public librariese.)

insightful

The Library Diaries A must read! New ways of thinking and looking at the world. You will not believe the funny, crazy & demented people at the library.
