Book Overview

Based on the experience of real-life Auschwitz prisoner Dita Kraus, this is the incredible story of a girl who risked her life to keep the magic of books alive during the Holocaust.

Fourteen-year-old Dita is one of the many imprisoned by the Nazis at Auschwitz. Taken, along with her mother and father, from the Terez n ghetto in Prague, Dita is adjusting to the constant terror that is life in the camp. When Jewish leader Freddy Hirsch asks Dita to take charge of the eight precious volumes the prisoners have managed to sneak past the guards, she agrees. And so Dita becomes the librarian of Auschwitz.

Out of one of the darkest chapters of human history comes this extraordinary story of courage and hope.

Poland World War II

This is an Extraordinary Story of Courage and Hope...during imprisonment at Auschwitz. It is a TRUE story of Dita's Survival..but not only her's but many of the Characters you meet along the way..they are True Actual people who went through the most horrendous horrible ordeals with her. The story touches on each of their lives and the connection they had to one another...and even in the end...it gives you a " What Happened To" account of the prisoners you meet in the story...what became of their lives..if they survived in the end..and what became of them once they were Free. It even gives you a brief account of what Nazi officers that were caught..who stood trial and execution for all that they had done. It is very well written and researched...a story based on the experiences and the hardships and tragic treatment the prisoners had to endure...from the very young to the very old. How they managed to survive these Death Camps..and find the fortitude to get up every morning and carry on...is unimaginable. I am not really going to touch on what the story is about..as the description written by Thrift..says it all. Praises to the Author..for doing such a remarkable heartfelt story..that everyone needs to know, read, and be educated to the horrors they lived through...because of one Crazy insane man ! Excellent story..that's deserves more than 5 stars !🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Ok

When reading the book summary overall the book looked good. Thought it would be a story of survival of a 14 year old girl. A lot of different characters and story lines. Jumped around a lot with space in between leaving you confused. If you like intense history books, this is for you.
