The Lessons Learned Life Plan: LEADERSHIP

By: Simon Card

What kind of leader do you become when you remember what it felt like to need one?

Across seven years at a charter school in Abu Dhabi, Simon Card moved from classroom teacher to Subject Lead to Assistant Headteacher. Along the way came systems that worked, ideas that did not, difficult conversations, developing leaders, missed follow-up, unexpected relationships, and the realization that leadership is not the same as carrying everyone around you.

Book Four of The Lessons Learned Life Plan is a memoir of school leadership learned from inside the work.

Build the system.
Know the people.
Inspect what you expect.
Share what works.
And when your part is finished, know when to let go.

Through honest stories of teaching, leadership, mistakes, growth, accountability, and relationships, LEADERSHIP explores what happens when your decisions begin affecting more than you.

This is a leadership story for educators-and for anyone responsible for helping other people grow.

Real Life. Real Lessons.
