They lead a life in secret for fear that someone in the village might discover their true nature. They all have a magical talent that cannot be explained with common sense.

The young goldsmith Carl discovers his mysterious ability to take on the shape of another person and is frightened and shocked. He knows all too well the stories of strange people who do strange things and pose a threat to the peace of the village community. He takes pleasure in transforming himself into the form of a young woman and becomes Erynn.

Little by little he finds other mutants who, like him, hide their abilities in order to avoid becoming victims of persecution and banishment.

But the lives of the strange people are not only threatened by the prejudices of the villagers. Mutant hunters hunt them down and soon the small group has to make a difficult decision.
