After 30 years spent in isolation, the railroad had come through just as folks started pulling money out of the mountains. Arizona was finally on the rise. Overnight, fortune-seekers of all sorts flooded into the territory. On came a plague of rustlers, outlaws, and gunslingers from Texas and New Mexico, successful miners and saloonmen from California, and professional gamblers from San Francisco, Leadville, and Dodge City. Add to that volatile mix the imposing shadow cast by Geronimo and his renegade Apache and it's likely the wildest the West ever got. Reckon ol' Shoe never had a chance.
