The Last Muster
When the scopes at Outpost Cairn pick up a Kessendra-pattern signature, Fourth Squad already knows what that word means to the people who survived the last one.
The Last Muster follows Cpl. Ines Okafor and the rest of Fourth Squad -- Sgt. Marcus Teal, Pvt. Dax Renner, Spec. Priya Anand -- as a routine perimeter rotation turns into the first real contact Outpost Cairn has faced since the Perimeter Incident gutted the old garrison. Their augments give them an edge no un-modified soldier has: faster reflexes, steadier hands under fire, senses tuned to catch what baseline eyes miss. But augments don't erase fear, and they don't undo what a squad remembers about the last time this alarm went off.
As the Kessendra formation closes on the wire, Fourth Squad has to hold a line that failed once already -- and figure out, in real time, whether this scout is probing for a weakness or announcing something much larger behind it.
What's inside:
- A tight, boots-on-the-ground military sci-fi story told through one squad's eyes
- Cyborg-augmented soldiers whose enhancements come with real costs, not just advantages
- A slow-burn reveal of what actually happened during the Perimeter Incident
- Fast, grounded combat sequences at a remote frontier outpost
- A squad-level story of trust, memory, and holding the line
Perfect for readers who want military sci-fi that stays close to its soldiers instead of zooming out to galactic politics -- fans of small-unit combat stories, cyborg/augment fiction, and first-contact tension.
