Dom and Rosa, both teachers, shared a friendship since childhood. While Dom hoped the friendship would turn into a romance, Rosa had other plans. She married Brian, a teaching colleague, and moved Upstate, New York, with him, to start their new life together. Dom was heartbroken and devastated. However, he and Rosa agreed to stay in touch through an annual exchange of Christmas cards and enclosed notes, so they can update one another on the happenings in their lives. Unfortunately, after many years of this holiday "pen-pal" relationship, Dom never heard back from Rosa once he sent his most recent Christmas card. As time went by, still no word from her. His deep concern and love for her led him on a journey to Upstate, New York, to find her. This journey introduced him to many people who were willing to assist him in locating Rosa, but it also led him down a path to hell and back. He soon realized that sometimes in life the better choice is to walk away and not look back. Instead, he chose to move forward in search of Rosa. A toxic mix of love, friendship, romance, concern, hate, lies, secrets, danger, betrayal and revenge, soon accompanied Dom on this journey of a lifetime; a journey that almost took his life as it nearly destroyed him personally and professionally.
