Extraordinary Conversations

Finding this book in print is like finding an insider's multi-million dollar stock tip in the pages of the Wall Street Journal, or an original Rembrandt etching at a yard sale. Such things aren't supposed to happen. But when they do, the finder is perversely negligent not to take advantage of them. We all know that the way to learn an art or a skill is to apprentice to a master, and this is truest of all in the case of the ultimate art - the art of becoming fully human, becoming what Jesus and St. Paul called "perfect", "completed". A Sufi approach to gnosticism

I found this book fascinating, and read it three times before feeling like I really "got it" --- it is a simple narrative with deep, multiple levels of meaning. Although the word is never used, this book is a witness to the validity of gnosticism, the idea that it is possible for a human to directly experience God, or Allah, and the truth of Divine Love --- and that the path to such experience does not necessarily lead through a particular religion. The story demonstrates skillfully the relationship of "faith" and "trust" and "knowing" --- that ultimately each is a level of aligning more and more closely with the Divine.

Spiritual Adventure Story

This book is great! I read it over a year ago and much of the imagery is still right here with me, partly due to Feild's descriptive prose, but partly due to his strong beautiful message and captivating story. The spiritual truths revealed in this novel of a man's spiritual search in the land of the Sufis can be an inspiration to the seeker of today, in whatever culture he or she happens to be. Great reading!

A must have book for all truth seekers

I was very excited to find a book that is so simple and so deep. I am interested in the Sufis and especially in Rummy's teaching and this book teaches me a lot about the way to enlightenment. Each chapter starts with notes from Sufi teachers that will stay in your mind for a long time. I was very identified with the struggle of Reshad to leave all he knows behind and start the real work. A book that will make you laugh, cry and pray at the same time.
