The story follows Victor Kingston as he struggles to find himself in an economic and social order founded on the evolutionary principles of race and sexuality. This entire system-and therefore Victor's entire life-is moderated by an omnipresent artificial intelligence apparatus. The chip in his head can do everything from wake him up in the morning, to dress him in virtual clothes, to guide him to work. Yet an unexpected encounter explodes Victor's shallow monotony and pours hot coals on his crisis of identity.
