Set during the long hot summer of nineteen seventy-six, a chance meeting and a robbery at a country church, lead Mike (a former borstal boy) and Cathy (the daughter of a rural dean), on a journey through the West Country to seek out those responsible. From the outset both have good reason to avoid the police - especially after they are duped by the robbers and then betrayed by Cathy s prospective fianc . With the temperature rising, pursued by detectives and journalists they enter into a game of double-bluff, potentially making matters worse by breaking the law themselves. A romantic, comedy-thriller, the story climaxes on the day of the dean s anniversary party, to be held on the vicarage lawn with all the main characters in attendance (only some of whom know exactly who is who, and what is what). But is this also the end of Cathy and Mike s journey?
