Prospects for the PRC

This is a volume that provides the reader a catalog of prospects for the People's Republic of China. Unusual in so far as its measure of China's prospects are governed by available information rather than "political correctness"--it considers (1) China's demographic problems (and they are formidable), together with (2) China's political prospects (and they are conflicted), as well as (3) China's fundamental economic challenges (and they are arresting). The assessments offered are well-founded on credible data and present a picture that should be considered by anyone concerned with the future of East Asia and U.S.-China relations. The account is delivered in a readable style with a minimum amount of academic jargon. The audience would include anyone interested in East Asia, research scholars, students or intelligent laypersons. The index is well-crafted and serviceable. Cover-art leaves a great deal to be desired, but one should not have expectations that are too high!
