With the declaration, "The knowledge of the secrets of the kingdom of heaven has been given to you but not to them." (13:11) Jesus presented his disciples with the distinguishing and defining difference between all previous revelations and his incarnate revelation. Secrets must be revealed by the one who holds the knowledge of the secrets. In Matthew's Gospel Jesus the Messiah is revealed as the king of the kingdom of heaven. Jesus knew of the kingdom of heaven the same way any human would, through an intimate relationship with the Father through the Spirit. Jesus made it possible for us to have the same intimate relationship with the Father through the Spirit so we also can have the knowledge of the secrets of the kingdom of heaven. The challenge Jesus had, that the Evangelists like Matthew had, that all of us who seek to reveal the relationship restoring kingdom of heaven have, is to relate these secrets to others in such a way that they replace the kingdom of earth as their primary reality. This is the main focus of Matthew's Gospel. This is the aim of this devotional. That by the time you read once again the Great Commission (28:18-20) your reality will be that of the Great Commissioner, that you will "go and make disciples" who will live in and for the kingdom of heaven.
