Upon his death, the spirit of a middle-aged man, Garrett, is catapulted back into the small rural town where he grew up, and had eagerly left after graduating from school 34 years earlier. Devastated that he has become a ghost, he quickly finds he is unable to pass over into the afterworld, causing him to grow increasingly more volatile each day. His subsequent journey sends a ripple through the townspeople, threatening to disturb the tranquility of their lives, which is oddly interrupted by the return of a woman who had also lived there at the same time. Eventually, his past reveals a history that has a karmic hold on him, opening up secrets of unrequited love and an unspoken culture among the people who now reside there.
