The Elvis Presley of Golf !

Elvis on the golf course, that is how I would describe Arnold Palmer. At 80 years old he is still a major factor in the game of golf. I have been to the Arnold Palmer Invitational sponsonered by Mastercard, and I have attended the PGA merchandise show. Arnold Palmer has made the sport what it is today by creating the modern era of golf on television. Howdy Giles has been fortunate to know Mr. Palmer well enough to take all of these great pictures. Howdy Giles is without a doubt Arnold Palmer's number one fan.

One Good Guy befriends One Great Guy

The King and I by Howdy Giles represents a real life story of a dream come true for Mr. Giles. I happen to know it is a true story. I first met Howdy in 1974 when I became a patient of a promising young dentist upon relocating to Wilmington. On my initial visit, when I was leaning back in the dental chair for an exam I saw a very large picture on the ceiling of Arnold Palmer. I asked Howard if he know Arnie and his answer was; "No, but I am going to meet him someday soon." A year or two later Howdy and his lovely wife purchased a place in Bay Hill. Mrs. Giles met Winnie Palmer and the rest is history. Befriending Arnold obviously has it rewards. For Howdy, his personal magnetism and all-around good guy qualities eventually got him a membership in the Royal and Ancient golf ruling body headquartered in St. Andrews. In addition to Bay Hill, Howard is a member at Wilmington Country Club and the prestigious Pine Valley in suburban Philadelphia. The story and pix in the book are first-rate. Howard's life long friendship with Dr. Peter Richter were also special for me since, I know Dr. Richter from my days at Hershey Country Club.

Great book! Photography is top notch.

I really enjoyed this book. My wife works for Howdy Giles and I have been fortunate to have met him on several occasions. Reading the book was quite an experience as I had heard several of the stories before so I knew what was coming. Still it was a great read and the pictures are marvelous!

great story of AP

I purchased the book Saturday the 12th and couldn't put it down till I finished it.I played in 3 proaams,at Bay Hill and hung out there..I started playing golf in the early fifties and loved the game.Of course this was in the heyday of THE kING. the bookbrings back memories in picture as well as stories. I remember playing at Hershey.Pa.and Arnold was my hero . I bought an Acushnet putter at Hershey CC as I was told Arnie used one. time went on and I moved to Florida from N.J. IN 1971 and got a job in Orlando as an investment banker played Golf at Rio Pinar and of course Bay Hill where I met HOWDY and the King my golf came to a halt in 1985 when I had a devastating stroke After getting out of the hospital Several friends sent me to Bay Hill where Dick Tiddy attempted to teach me how to play golf with one arm It just didn't work. However at the next Bay Hill Invitional Arnie opened the door for me to work as a marshall at the putting green I was estatic THE book brings out the big heart that Arnie has for others...at 81 I shall treasure this masterpiece .If you love golf you'll treasure this book by Howdy....BUY IT NOW CIAO CARL BAILEY FORT MILL.S.C.
