Thank You Martie for Making Me Feel NORMAL!

For all the parenting books that made me feel like a complete failure for not doing A, B or C, "The Kids Drank Pickle Juice" made me feel like I'm a normal mom, my kids aren't wrecked, and life's gonna be OK. THANK YOU, Martie, for your tribute to honesty, imperfection, and laughable moments of life. This book will be what I run to when I think I'm going to blow a fuse if anyone else asks for anything, or when I feel fat, or when I hear those dreaded voices inside my head and I just need to silence them! For all you moms out there who are trying your best to love your kids, be a good wife, but still can't keep your house clean, the laundry done, or to give up yelling, give yourself a treat and read this book! It's the best gift you can give yourself AND your kids. You're normal, you're not alone, and Martie's there to tell you that you can have delightful, well-adjusted and happy children without a shred of perfection in you. This book probably gave me more laughs than any other book I've read in years, and it's one that I want to give to a friend when she's had a bad day. I love the combination of humor, raw reality, and spiritual truth. Can't wait for the next book, Martie!

If you are a mom you can relate!!

This is such a clever and well written work! If you are a mom you must read this book. It will make you laugh, smile and giggle with delight that you are not the only one going through the madness of motherhood! I can totally relate since i haven't even been married 4 years and have 2 children close in age. You feel as if the world is closing in, but it is nice to know that there are many out there who can relate with your insanity. Martie has such a witty since of lingo and humor that it will lift your spirits..buy it!!!

Buy this book! You'll want to share your laughs with the whole family.

First of all, I am not William; I'm his daughter. In this book, Martie Byrd says at one point, "I think I'm hilarious." Although she says this in a joking way, she is absolutely right. "The Kids Drank Pickle Juice" is divided into short chapters on various topics and stories, but once you read one, you won't want to stop. The book was given as a gift to my mom and I picked it up to look at a few pages, and before I knew it, I had finished the book! I even read several sections aloud to my mom and sister in the car because they wanted to know why I was laughing so much. (One of my personal favorite sections was about the youngest daughter writing a letter to Santa that told him to keep the milk and cookies off the carpet so that mom wouldn't get mad.) My mom and sister each read the book as soon as I had finished. Another family I know said that they were reading aloud to each other as well. So buy this book! It contains humor, truth, and the reassurance that many people have a family just as strange as your own! :)

This book is hilarious and very applicable for moms!

Incidentally, after a dreaded shopping trip at Wal-Mart this morning, I sat down for a breather and was reading this book while eating lunch. I almost spewed my sweet tea as I laughed until I cried in the chapter about a trip to Wal-Mart. The similarities were uncanny . . . :-) It's a great book!! I highly recommend it!
