a practical and common sense guide to career development

What a book!! It is possible that there are others like me who fall into the trap that your work speaks for itself. If so read on and benefit from the book. This book covers what was hitherto a blind spot to me. That what matters to your career more than you might dare to believe is the perception that others have of you. This is a refreshing book packed with keen insights quite unlike the books i read on career development. The early part of the book points out convincingly why perception matters and the later part of the book offers strategies to alter your perception among others. Some of the points that he raises are especially valuable to me such as 'work on achievable tasks', the theory of fundamental attribution which states that people tend to disproportionately attribute more of what has occurred to personal factors than to situational or external factors. The section on how to debate alone is worth the price of the entire book and more. This book would be most valuable to those who are just starting on the job or who have taken a new job. This book will be a hard stretch for those well entrenched in their jobs. There is some redundancy in this book which might be the author's way to drill the concepts into our

Definitely Worths to Read

Dr. Sun explained how to achieve a successful career from many angles - as a manager, a report or a peer. He explained the theory on how human brain works during interacting with others and how to use the theory to your advantage - open yourself up and be direct in order to help others perceive you early and perceive you well. He emphasizes that you should not be shy to expose your career passion. People admire the courage when someone shows his desire and will never look down on him if he failed. A manager definitely offers a career opportunity to the one who showed his desire for it. This even applies to personal relationship: I tend to make friends with people who showed to like to be my friend too. If I read this book earlier, I would have be more successful in my career. But it is never to late to fix something. I especially recommend this book to people who are starting a new career. Most people don't have a very high expectation of themselves starting out so they don't act proactively during their career path. That is wrong! - FW

Contra-intuitive and yet real

Perception or substance, image or quality: which matter more in the success of one's career? Most of us have learned from early age, and have accepted, that it is substance and quality that determine. And yet in real life, we have watched in frustration and confusion that often images and perceptions pre-determine if one gets the chances. In his book "Key to success: shape a superb perception of you", Dr. Sun thoroughly analyzed the social and psychological factors behind this contra-intuitive and yet prevalent phenomenon, and argues that it is all very human that chances of success favor those projecting the right image. Quality alone will not get you to the right spots. The book also provides advices on how to project correct image and pave the way to success, and should therefore be of interest to many, especially those fresh graduates just entering the real world. A less than perfect aspect of the book may be the relative few real life examples that illustrate how the principles and advices work.

Another way to think of how to be successful in your life

When I received this book in the mail, I could not stop finishing reading it. The book started with the introduction of the priciples of perception and the importance of other's perception of you, followed with in depth explaination of how to shape a superb perception of you to be successful. This book changed my way of thinking of how to be more competitive and more successful in the work place. It is virturely suitable for people of all ages who want to be successful and to control their own lifes. I highly recommend this book.

It is perceptions of others that count!

You have worked hard and done a superb job, at least by your own perception. But it always seems that others around you are more successful. Depressing? Similarly, in almost every aspect the company that you just invested is a good company and has been under valued for a long time. But the company keeps under valued. The three laws of perception described in this book will tell you the reasons and much more. More importantly, the author shows the ways to deal with perception of others to in many aspects of your life. Highly recommended, especially for new graduates entering a different world from school.
