This was a very well-written book. I was able to read it with people talking in the background and the tv on, which is an indication of how well it was written. Unfortunately, the book's plot was not unique or exciting. The plot of the book was a mixture of THIN LINE BETWEEN LOVE and HATE, BOOMERANG, and FATAL ATTRACTION. This is the story of Troy and Jennifer. Jennifer moves to Atlanta and leaves Troy behind. Troy then becomes insecure and needy. After a misunderstanding, he and Jennifer breakup. Troy hooks up with a JUMPOFF (Dana) and his life gets crazy. The THIN LINE correlation is the obsessive jumpoff who is only there because your real love (the long term girlfriend) seems to be unavailable or has someone else. The BOOMERANG correlation is the relationship the Eddie Murphy character had with his boys in the movie. Also, there is the similiarity between Eddie's character finally getting turned out by the Robin Givens character after he has spent many years as a player himself. The FATAL ATTRACTION connection is the rabbit in the pot. In this book, it was a disgusting animal placed in an oven. This author is a very good writer. He needs to come up with some better things to add to his plots though and stop arbitrarily mentioning MONTGOMERY ALABAMA--we get that you went to AUM.
Finally a man with trust issues!

I really enjoyed this book. For Mr. Dixon's first book he did a good job bringing in how men can have trust issues as well as women. He had strong black characters and the story ended very neat with no loose ends. I know he will go on to do greater works. God bless his career.
Entertaining read.

I enjoyed reading this book. I agree with the RAWSISTAZ reviewers, it was great to read about a man who is insecure in love and not always reading about a woman pining after some man. This book shows that men can fall head over heels in love and take the breakup just as hard as many women can. I get tired of reading about women whining and complaining about men all the time. Nice to see a book that shows men have real emotions also. I also enjoyed Jennifer not being beholden to a small city and wanting to better herself and not just stay in one place because of a man. More women need to take risks in life. I thought it was funny and real. Great Job!
Old Habits Die Hard

From the look of things Troy and Jennifer have the ideal relationship of commitment, trust and everlasting love in THE JUMP OFF by Doug Dixon. At one time Troy, an engineer, was a player who did not believe in commitment until he stumbled upon Jennifer. Their relationship blossomed into engagement and plans for the future. Troy and Jennifer both have good news for each other - he has found the perfect lot to build their dream house in Mobile, Alabama but she has accepted a job offer from a prestigious law firm in Atlanta. Her information throws Troy for a loop because their future plans did not include relocation several hours away. Making the best of the situation and coming to terms with the fact that Jennifer will be heading to Atlanta soon, Troy tells his woes to his two best friends, Mike, a married police officer with children and Rick, a player extraordinaire. Between the two, they become his conscious of good versus evil as the story progresses. Enter Dana, a transplant from California, and Troy's new project partner at the engineering firm, and all bets are off as to how Troy and Jennifer will make their long distance relationship work. It is truly a treat to watch Troy's insecurities play out as he travels back and forth between Mobile and Atlanta to spend time with Jennifer. Between her new job and friends, which include those of the male persuasion, Troy turns to jealousy, which plays out into a full force episode of drama. However, because of the misunderstanding and the subsequent plans to explain all, a terrible event occurs which has Troy questioning all that is wrong with his life. Doug Dixon did a wonderful job of inserting the humanistic affects of Troy and Jennifer's family into the storyline, employing a realistic touch of those significant others that complete our lives. THE JUMP OFF begins with a fun loving, satirical plot and quickly spirals into dramatic proportions with grave consequences. Reviewed by Dawn R. Reeves of The RAWSISTAZ Reviewers
