The Joy of Decorating: Southern Style with Mrs. Howard

Cowritten with well-known Southern writer Susan Sully, Phoebe Howard's The Joy of Decorating is a gorgeous book epitomizing the grace and elegance of Southern interior design that's "guaranteed to inspire your own imagination" (Atlanta magazine).

Phoebe Howard, known affectionately as Mrs. Howard to her clients, has a penchant for creating stylish spaces, which has evolved into her own critically acclaimed brand of interior design. Mrs. Howard's first book features several of her largest design projects and addresses the most common decorating issues and questions her clients and customers ask.

The book's design projects are organized by theme: Inviting, Inspiring, Timeless, Graceful, Tranquil, Casual, and Comfortable--all words that have been used to describe Mrs. Howard's work and ones that illustrate the many different ways she strives to make her houses look and feel.

"Mrs. Howard, as she's known to fans of her eponymous store, peppers the book with tips for achieving a romantic, delicate look without being twee or overly saccharine. It's the perfect title for those looking to design rooms that are soft and practical." --Veranda magazine

Not one library.

I like books and magazines such as Veranda that demonstrate the possibilities and simple beauties of "The Joy of Decorating." However, this book is a hodgepodge of collections of clutter. They take an idea that is clean and psychologically appealing and go too far in throwing in meaningless clutter. If you like taco chips on your hamburger, then you will find this book worthwhile. The second part of the book is to slow down and read the accompanying verbosity that tells what they are trying to present with each vision. "The master bedroom's soaring ceilings dedicated the design of...". We all know what chipped cream beef on toast is called. Where are comfortable and efficient (you do not have to be cheap) rooms for people in the designs? Where is the library?
