After the assassination of the German chancellor, the security of Office 119 is torn by the multitude of threats facing Europe and its people. Now time is running out. Agent Renate Bachle must do everything and anything to stop a conspirator willing to push nations to war and scapegoat an entire race in a bid for deadly power. In the shadows, a renegade priest and his bodyguard attempt to protect a sacred codex as ancient as it is coveted. But not even those willing to manipulate the Vatican to save the world can grasp the true nature of the power that has fallen into the wrong hands. All they can do is try to harness it long enough to stem the tide of blood and evil before it washes across Europe...and the globe.
Very quick start and seems to be an interesting theme. I have to read stop and start where I work, but it's easy to get back into the story. I'll look forward to the next step. Sometimes, however, going back to pre-AD dates for background, is startling, but informative once I've finished that piece. I'll continue to read it and I'm sure I'll find it's another one of RL's good works.
Surprisingly Good

I found The Jericho Pact on sale at my super market. I had never heard of the author(s) or any of her (their?) previous books. Much to my surprise, when I started to read it, I could hardly put it down. Not great literature but very, very exciting and entertaining. Far superior to the thrillers of better known authors like Steve Berry, for instance. I would definitely recommend this book for great light reading.

Gotta love this book

If you're into spy/mystery books with a touch of sci-fi, this is a good series for you. This is the third in a series of office 119 mysteries which I found surprisingly entertaining. I have read every Patricia Cornwell and Kathy Reichs novel and was looking for something similar to read during a recent camping trip and stumbled onto the office 119 series. No, it's really not similar to anything by Cornwell or Reichs, but I ended up really liking it anyway. The basic premise of the books is that the world is being run by a small group of powerful people that stop at nothing to get what they want. Interpol, the FBI, the German secret service are all unable to figure out what's going on but a small group of undercover international agents get involved to save the world from the bad guys. At the same time, a powerful ancient codex is being pursued by everyone including the Vatican. This codeex can be used for great good or evil and of course the bad guys need it so they can control the world. Sounds kind of silly but it actually works.
An exciting suspense laden tale

The world is shook when the assassin killed the German chancellor. Other threats to world leaders, especially in Europe, and to the people have surfaced as riots break out throughout the continent including what turns out to be the final straw at the Grande Mosquée de Paris. Fearing for Muslims, the European Union leadership moves all Muslims into "protection zones". Office 119 supervisors realize they do have the manpower to prevent some of these events from happening, but which ones to stop before Europe and the world explodes into a war with ethnic cleansing as a catalyst remains the question. While Office 119 Agent Renate Bachle struggles to uncover the mastermind behind the cleverly devised orchestrated assaults, Father Steve Lorenzo and his bodyguard protect a sacred ancient codex. However, the prime puppet-master sees he can use this biblical codex to further the hostilities, plunge a naive suspicious world into open warfare and ultimately chaos so that this master manipulator will arise out of the ashes of civilization as the global ruler. This Office 119 thriller is an exciting suspense laden tale in spite of the audience knowing relatively early who the villainous WILDCARD is and the use of coincidence to solve much of the investigation by Renate and cohorts. Still this is a fine entry as an unknown Machiavelli manipulates religion to foster a modern day Crusades in which he will be the only victor. Renate's fans will appreciate her efforts to prevent a religious world war III. Harriet Klausner
