The Iron Chest: A Single Brightness (Amereld)

By: R. A. Neddow

How much of what they say is true? Enough, though most of the truths are intertwined with lies.

Wounded, shackled, and surrounded by rumours, Jabrael arrives at a refuge hidden within a forested mountain. Some call her a hero. Others, a murderer corrupted by darkness. Before the mountain's leaders decide whether she is an ally or a danger, she agrees to tell them how it all began.

At fourteen, Jabrael was the half-human Crown Princess of a people who had already lost their world. Raised to embody the hopes of a people still haunted by that loss, she found freedom from the expectations of Court in her fiercely independent best friend, Lady Elyria. Yet even El did not know her greatest secret: Jabrael was a Channeller, and an unknown God had forbidden her to reveal it.

When an enemy from the Sila's darkest history brings war inside New Andradae's defences, the conflict Jabrael has known only through books becomes a horrifying reality. Neither princess nor friend is prepared for what awaits them.

"My picture was stark black and white, and it was a lie."

A Single Brightness is the first volume of The Iron Chest, book one in the Amereld series, an adult epic fantasy of family, faith, friendship, political intrigue, magic, and the slow, complicated making of a woman whose life will become far stranger than she ever imagined.
