Irish Wine is intoxicating

Irish Wine, by Dick Wimmer, is a stunningly lyrical, achingly funny trilogy that presents some of the brightest, yet most flawed, characters I've encountered. Wimmer portrays the Artist, in various incarnations--the frustrated, the famous, the obsessive, the unrecognized, the paralyzed. These characterizations are poignant, yet completely irreverent. As a result, Wimmer creates an unexpected literary delight: fast-paced poetry that you can't put down. What an accomplishment!As an added bonus, no male writer I've ever read, has written better about sex from a woman's point of view, than Wimmer. Bravo!

Life Affirming and Laugh Inducing

Dick Wimmer's beautiful, high-energy writing took me on an adventure filled with all of the things that make life delicious: love, joy, passion, risk and lots of laugh out loud humor. I found myself adoring the larger than life painter,Seamus Boyne, from the beginning of the first novel and growing to love him more and more as his passion fueled the craziest of situations. His love for his estranged daughter, Tory, was deeply moving and provided terrific emotional glue for the wonderful zaniness found in the second novel. The third novel was very different, but equally rich and satisfying - a story about moving through fear to claim one's joy. Wimmer's style is completely unexpected and utterly enjoyable. I loved it!

what a fantastic trilogy the mood the flow in depth portraits of interesting people while telling a good story at the same time each segment of the trilogy could be made into a fabulous movie. kudos to author dick wimmer

Intoxicating

Like a Flann O'Brien on speed, Dick Wimmer dazzles with a collection of mainly Irish crazies who tumble through their wildly dishevelled lives by talking their way into and out of the most unlikely ventures, adventures, and misadventures. T he artist Seamus Boyne is a fantastic (in every sense) creation--comic, urgent, larger than life, foaming with drink, sex hormones, and language. Think Dylan Thomas rev- ving a Harley Davidson through heavy traffic. Vintage Wimmer, Irish Wine is at least a 100 Proof.

Boyne is back -- big time!!

Dick Wimmer has tied together three brilliant books about his fictional painter, Seamus Boyne, and the outrageous antics of his zany flamboyance in "The Irish Wine Trilogy." Wimmer gives us a package that, once opened, cannot be resealed. Fortunately for the cult followers of dear old Boyne, Wimmer has brought together his two other novels,"Irish Wine" and "Boyne's Lassie" which I have read and have wildly enjoyed, and introduced his new novel "Hagar's Dream" -- thus a trilogy. "The Irish Wine Trilogy" took me on a fantastic, hilarious, and romantically touching roller-coaster of experiences from Boyne in "Irish Wine," suicidally obsessed with having his paintings hanging in the Tate Museum next to his hero and confident Joseph Mallord Turner, who died in 1851, to Boyne, in "Boyne's Lassie," faking his own death and the serendipity of meeting his estranged, mourning, seventeen year old daughter, Tory, who is subsequently kidnapped, and finally, in the third book, "Hagar's Dream," to his best friend, Gene Hagar, falling love with Boyne's beautiful, blond daughter (20 years his junior). The Joycean prose is wonderfully fast-paced. The characters are vividly developed. The plot of each book flows into the helter-skelter situations of the next book. The accurate dialogue carries the reader along without hesitation, moving us from Ireland to England to the United States. What more could a reader request? He is truly the literary heir to James Joyce and J.P.Donleavy.
