Writer R.C. Sherriff and Director James Whale took a thinly veiled H.G. Wells social commentary, “The Invisible Man,” and made a great 1933 movie that is worth watching and watching and watching again. Claude Rains, who played such characters as Julius Caesar in Caesar and Cleopatra (1945), makes an excellent “The Invisible Man” as a scientist who perfects invisibility only to find the side effects are megalomania leading to insanity. We get lots of scenes where you cannot see him doing his dastardly deeds as he plans to rule the world. “He’s in here, he’s in here!” Can he be saved? Watch and see. Kibitzing allowed.
