Horror legend Bela Lugosi stars in one of his most lauded and expressive roles, as the unwitting homicidal killer who is being commanded by his damaged wife to commit murder, albeit while under hypnosis. When the twin brother of a man wrongly accused of one of the murders arrives in town, he begins to unravel the whole dark, twisted truth. The town's leading citizen becomes a homicidal maniac after his wife deserts him.
This is a fast-paced psychological thriller. Story and screenplay by Helen and Al Martin. Produced by Sam Katzman, whose style you will recognize—or notice the lack of.
Mr. Kessler (Bela Lugosi) is missing his wife (Betty Compson) but doesn't realize it and believes she will return someday. His daughter, Virginia (Polly Ann Young), tries to keep the invisible Mrs. Kessler from her boyfriend Ralph's (John McGuire) prying eyes. Meanwhile, there's a mysterious ghost in the house that is randomly dispatching people for reasons that seem arbitrary. What could this mean? There might be more to this story than just a simple murder movie. What is the maid hiding? What is Jules (Ernie Adams) hiding?
Will the ghosts be found before they all get dispatched?
The film is short and black and white. One advantage of the short movie is that it gets straight to the point. It makes a good filler, but once you've seen it, you've seen it.
