From its attention-grabbing opening scene of a body found in an elevator in the Hotel Bristol in Vienna to its surprise ending at Interpol headquarters in Lyon, the Interpol Imbroglio will hold your interest. When delegates at a General Assembly of Interpol, the international police organization start dropping dead, fear sets in that the law enforcement community itself--or perhaps the entire city of Vienna--may be the target. The plot involves organizational politics, bio-chemical cocktails, a shady deal at a cyber-caf , fugitive flight and extradition issues, and an unexpected romance between an Iraqi colonel and a German policewoman as war with Saddam Hussein looms. As a new fiction writer on an untapped subject, the author calls on her years of experience living in Vienna as a student when her father was stationed there with the U.S. Army and later as an attorney in the Office of International Affairs at the United States Department of Justice to provide both the inspiration and the expertise for this fast-paced story of intrigue and murder at the highest levels of the international police community.
The author strikes big with first novel. My book club in Washington was forunate to have Grotenrath lead our discussion of her first novel and I highly recommend it for all. She knows her stuff and leads you through a captivating twist of events and keeps you guessing throughout. She has a style that keeps you wanting to turn page after page. J
Riviting

The Interpol Imbroglio is a riviting mystery that keeps the readers attention from the very first chapter. Mary Jo Grotenrath's extensive experience with Interpol and her familiarity with the European community, gives the reader interesting insights into the history and cuisine of the area. There is also an underlying moral aspect to the story as some of the characters struggle to overcome character flaws that beset them and diligently work at becoming better people. It is just great reading and thoroughly enjoyable. Haven't read a book in a long time that I keep thinking about after finishing like this one.

I truly enjoyed every morsal of this book. I loved the mystery, the suspense, and the "whodunit" that the author provides on almost on every page. The international intrique keeps you from putting it down. The descriptions of Vienna, and other cities and sites makes you feel like you are there. As well, her food descriptions are "delicious." I loved the different story lines and descriptions of her subjects. It gives you a total view of international law enforcement and it's inner workings, but takes you on a roller coaster ride of self-acclaimed power. I thank the author for keeping me entertained.

The result of a brilliant and experienced mind, I found this book to be not only very informative and full of "imbrogli", but also deeply sensitive, even spiritual, with endless surprises, intrigues and fascinating outcomes. Easily read by its short chapters, it immediately catpured my interest and immagination and, before I knew it, I was immersed into what became a heart throb. Once started, it was hard to put down and, once finished, it left me to want more. What an incredible journey!
