One of the best compilations of classic fairy tales with gorgeous illustrations

This review is for "The International Collection of Classic Fairy Tales" by D. Sylvan Publishing (in hardcover) 1998. We found this treasure of a book at a used bookstore (in almost new condition). I had been searching for a collected fairy tales book for my 5-year-old daughter, but did not want to get the poorly-written versions (and there are plenty of those) nor the ones where the illustrations lean towards manga-style illustrations or are just plain boring. When my daughter and I spied this, we both grabbed it at the same time - the cover itself is beautiful (you can view the images I've uploaded) and the collection of fairy tales is quite impressive. The paper quality is of good stock - glossy finish, thick and the illustrations are absolutely gorgeous. What I really loved about this book is that the stories are adapted for young readers and not overly lengthy. They are perfect for independent reading, reading aloud, or as bedtime reading. Every page has full-color illustration/s which makes this an absolute delight to browse and read through. It will certainly stimulate a young child's imagination and the illustrations reminded me of the fairy tale books I used to read as a young child myself. Worth tracking down!
