The Innate Weight started as a journal for me. A way to vent and a way to capture my feelings without letting them linger unconfronted and uncaptured. Like anyone, I wrestle with feelings behind my Emotions, my needing of a false sense of Control, and addressing why I'm Torn internally. The collection of poems are categorized as such. While majority of the poems have been modified and edited at a later date, I sought to preserve the integrity and truly capture what I was feeling at a given moment. A great deal of the poems remain in their original design, just as journal entries need not modification at a later date. Journaling, and poetry, will always be life-long pursuits of mine, and I hope to develop a mature writing style behind rather immature and emotionally driven content. Generally speaking, I put together this work as a personal success piece, something to reflect back upon, however, the contents apply to anyone who has faced trials of heartbreak, feeling lost, consumed by raw-emotions, blind rage, propensity to self-harm, or any amount of animosity for the world or themselves. This work is in NO way to provide aid or remedy these problems, but, rather, The Innate Weight is my way of expressing my helplessness behind each concern I've experienced. It's a way to enter my mind, my heart, and dare I say my soul. To better understand me, just as writing each poem out helped me understand myself and my conflicts. I want you to know: you are not alone. It certainly feels hopeless, and that you're alone, standing against everything in this world. But, the greatest truth of all is strength behind love, and loving ourselves is the hardest thing to do but will open the doors to everything that is good in the world and more.
