Are you willing to die to become immortal?

The author weaves a tale of science fiction that makes you think about your own values and beliefs. Set in the year 2065, the main character, Dr. Lanning Balcourt, is a scientist who has discovered a way to transplant one's conciousness from a dying body over to a cloned immortal body free of disease and death. Serious questions arise: Does the conciousness really travel to the new body or does the new body merely contain a pale copy of the original? And what about the soul? Did it die with the original body thereby creating a living being without a soul? Worse yet--the only way to get a new body is to die. Will people purposely kill themselves just so they can become immortal? Imagine the population problem if everyone were to become immortal. Who decides who can become immortal? Will the immortals become a new species that look down upon mere mortals? These questions arise as one reads how the main character becomes immortal and how it changes him and those around him.
