Very good

This was one of the first woodworking books I purchased, the low price and nice photographs catching my eye. The book leans more towards beginners which is fine because there is still plenty of useful basic knowledge even for high-level woodworkers. What impressed me most(and really led to my purchase) was the section on installing/repairing a stair case, which is what I was doing when I bought the book. While that section, and some of the other sections on home maintenance and repair, aren't technically wood working projects, they are helpful references even if you have experience. The most impressive section in my opinion is the restoration of old pieces which to me is the true heart of woodworking. What draws many people to woodworking is the ability to take a few boards and a few tools and to make something beautiful and useful. Restoration is the next step in that process, taking something old and useless and making it beautiful and valuable again. There are also some nice beginner projects in this book that get you from the beginner level to the next step, and then some intermediate projects to refine your skills. Though I've had this book for quite a while and have moved on to more advanced work I still find myself referencing it in my shop from time to time. It's a great book to have in your shop or home regardless of skill level.

Simple, elegant designs

I'm basically a beginner. I took a class over five years ago, the only girl in the shop, and managed to make some pieces that I still use every single day. Looking at my bench, foot stool, goblet, adirondack chair, etc gives me such pleasure that I am interested in seeking out a shop in the area. I picked up this book because of the clear illustrations and photographs, the simple but elegant designs of each piece, and the way the book was organized: Tools, Getting Started, Fixings and Fittings, Basics, Joints, Advanced, Finishing... it's got a list of suppliers and a basic glossary in the back. It has smaller, simpler projects such as frames for those who want a day project, which is nice. I definitely recommend this book, and will keep my eye out for other Corbett books.
